Vaccinations

When it comes to keeping your pet healthy, prevention is the key!

Bayfair & Papamoa Vets emphasise regular physical exams and preventive care as part of your pet's overall health care plan.  Vaccinations play an important role in preventing disease in your pet!

We advise vaccination against Parvo, Distemper, Parainfluenza and Hepatitis for all dogs.  This core vaccine should be given to puppies at 6, 9 and 12 weeks of age.  Boosters are required as adult dogs need to maintain immunity.  We also recommend two other vaccinations for certain dogs;

• ‘Kennel Cough’ vaccination is given to dogs who will go into boarding kennels or are very social and have a lot of contact with other dogs, for example on the beach.
• Leptospirosis vaccination is recommended for hunting dogs, farm dogs, or dogs that are likely to travel a lot out of the Bay of Plenty. 

Cats are vaccinated against Feline herpesvirus, calicivirus, and panleukopaenia.  Kittens should be vaccinated from 8 weeks of age, and a booster is required after one month. An annual booster is given one year later, and thereafter every 2 years to maintain immunity.
